The United States has taken three quality goalies to Milan for the Winter Olympics men's hockey tournament. Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Oettinger and Jeremy Swayman are all reliable NHL starters who could win games for Team USA in this tournament. Of course, only one can start, and the hope for the U.S. would be that whoever is picked can go on a hot streak and carry the team all the way to a gold medal. Hellebuyck was the starter at the 4 Nations Faceoff, and he has by far the best career accomplishments. MORE: This season, though, the ' goalie hasn't had his best performances relative to his sterling reputation, which has opened the Joely Rodriguez Jersey door to a question of who might start for the United States. At practice on Monday, though, the indication is that Hellebuyck will indeed start for the U.S. According to , Hellebuyck had one net to himself at practice, while the other two netminders rotated in the other goal. That certainly points to the guy expected to be atop the depth chart. MORE: There's a bit of time for this to change, and if Hellebuyck struggles in game action, the U.S. could certainly make a switch. But the opener is coming fast. The United States takes on Latvia on Thursday.
